In the small Black Forest town of Elzach, the Schuttig fools in their distinctive red costumes and hedgehog-quill hats process through the medieval streets brandishing inflated pig's bladders to swat bystanders, in one of the most original and long-preserved Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht customs in Germany.
