Royal Isle of Wight County Show
The island's principal agricultural show brings livestock, horses, show jumping and countryside crafts to the Newport showground each July, a two-day event where the county's farming families have been competing in the same rings since the Victorian era and the judges still know everyone by name.
Newport is the busy, workaday capital of the Isle of Wight rather than a quaint village: it earns a visit for its independent food scene, a genuinely strong real ale micropub, Georgian market squares and easy access to Carisbrooke Castle, but anyone expecting rural charm will need to look to the surrounding Island instead.
