Lauder's Common Riding is one of the most intimate of the Borders festivals, with a mounted Cornet leading riders along the ancient marches of this small market town on the edge of the Lammermuir Hills.
A genuinely intact Scottish market burgh - single irregular High Street, a masterpiece Restoration kirk, a fairytale castle on its doorstep, a deli, a bakery and a proper pub - that punches well above its size without trying to.
