Cheltenham Literature Festival
The world's oldest literary festival fills Cheltenham's Regency venues for ten October days with 500 events, from Booker Prize winners to children's authors, making it the essential autumn gathering for book lovers.
Cheltenham is not a village but one of Britain's finest intact Regency spa towns - its grand terraces, pump room, festivals and well-stocked pubs reward a full day with ease, and there is enough architecture alone to justify the trip.
