Chatsworth Christmas Market
More than 100 craft and food stalls fill the Great Court of Chatsworth House for five weeks each winter, set against one of England's grandest country houses with the Peak District as backdrop and the illuminated light trail running after dark.
Edensor is one of England's most architecturally distinctive estate villages - a deliberate Victorian fantasy of competing revival styles arranged around a green, anchored by a Gilbert Scott church and set within Chatsworth's deer park - but it is tiny, has no pub, no shop and only one cafe, so the visit is short and purposeful rather than lingering.
