Buxton International Festival
Six opera productions, including four world premieres, fill Buxton Opera House and the Pavilion Gardens across 18 July days, making this Peak District spa town's festival one of the most ambitious programmes of rare and new opera anywhere in Britain.
Buxton is not a village but a handsome spa and market town, with Georgian architecture, a working railway, a craft bakery, twice-weekly markets, and its own brewery tap; it earns its journey for walkers, culture-seekers, and anyone wanting a proper Peak District base.
